How to find a CRO job?

I often get the question of how to find your first CRO job. This can be a challenge. Also, finding your next CRO job can take time and effort.

In The Netherlands (where I am from), there is a high demand for CRO specialists. However, recruiters generally ask for one or a few years of experience. It can be even more challenging in other markets with lower demand.

Finding a job is a matter of searching the web. This job portal and LinkedIn will give you good options.

In case you lack experience, here are a few tips to help you in the job market.

Tips for finding a CRO job

Do some CRO work in your current job to get experience

You could reserve time to do some CRO work in your current job. Perhaps you can set up a poll or run a small survey. You could conduct basic data analyses or set up a simple A/B test. This will give you some experience to share during your interviews. Your manager may be enthusiastic about your CRO work and give you more time to do so.

Get certificates

With certificates, you can show your future employer that you are eager to learn and know many theories about Conversion Rate Optimization. Of course, most CRO jobs require experience, but at least you have proof that you know the theory. My Udemy courses come at a low price and provide you with a certificate upon completion. When you follow these courses, you can also answer any question you get during your interviews.

Tip: place these certificates on your LinkedIn profile page as well.

Develop a unique skill set

Conversion Rate Optimization is a very broad line of work. A CRO specialist who does everything himself needs to know about data analysis, UX research, UX design, statistics, coding, copywriting, and psychology. By developing a unique skill set, you set yourself apart from the rest of the market, making you more attractive to land a CRO job.

You could, for instance, get a UX design course. But often, coding skills are most beneficial, as development is a major bottleneck for most CRO processes. You can check out my Coding for A/B testing course on my course page to get a great discount.

Offer free help and ask your network in exchange for a testimonial

You could offer free help in exchange for a testimonial (on LinkedIn, for instance). This will give you experience and social proof that you are a good match for a future CRO job.

You could also ask your network for CRO work. Ask around and let people know you are looking for a CRO position and want to get experience. Again, certificates work here, proving you are eager to learn and have knowledge.

Offer your work at Upwork

You could offer your services at a website like Upwork. Upwork is a freelancing platform connecting many freelancers and companies worldwide.

Build a network

Share information, help people, go to meetups, and offer to be a speaker (for free). Doing so will build a network, and people will start seeing you as a friendly, knowledgeable person. Increasing your chance to land a CRO job.

Check out a job portal and apply often

Experimentation Jobs and LinkedIn are great resource for finding many jobs in CRO and experimentation. The more often you apply to CRO jobs, the higher your chance of landing one.

The formula is simple: success = chance * frequency. The chance is your chance of landing a job. This means your experience, certificates, and job interview skills. Frequency is the number of times you apply. To increase your success, and your chance is low, increase your frequency.

The same applies to A/B testing. You will find more winners (success) with better research (chance) and more tests (frequency).

Stand out from the crowd

In today’s job market, competition is fierce when you lack experience. Therefore, it can be challenging to stand out from the crowd. That’s why you can do something creative and show value upfront to catch the attention of recruiters and increase your chances of landing a job.

One obvious and effective way to stand out is by tailoring your application to the job you’re applying for. Read the job description carefully and identify the key skills and qualifications the employer seeks. Then, highlight your relevant experience and achievements in your resume and cover letter. This will show the recruiter that you have the skills they’re looking for and that you’ve taken the time to research the role and the company.

Another way to stand out is by doing something creative that showcases your skills and experience. For example, when applying for a CRO job, you could conduct a brief CRO audit for the employer’s website. This will give the recruiter a tangible example of your work and demonstrate your creativity and skillset. You could also consider creating a video resume, a video audit, or a personal website highlighting your strengths and achievements. Be creative here. Think about what best matches you and displays your unique skills. These innovative approaches are memorable and can help you stand out from other candidates who may be submitting more traditional applications.

Finding a job takes time and work

Finding a CRO job takes time and work. The tips above will increase your chance of landing one. Do not get frustrated. There is a job out there with your name on it. You just have to find it.
